A mother knows defence, no defense

So what is a 43 year old mother doing writing about football stuff. Maybe I am trying to steal my husband's thunder. No. I am writing about it because I know about it and I have lived among it since I was a young child. My brother was an All-State player for Lawrence County. He was on both sides on the ball and was a stand-out player. Enough about my qualifications. This Friday night is our season home opener against HILLSBORO. The capital letters say it all. They are a mighty force to be reckoned with or wrecked by. As I am reading the sports articles on their game with Overton, I am reminded that these are the schools I grew up with. I lived in the Nashville area for 20 years. I know these power-houses from personal experience sitting in the stands. They have a quarterback, Alex Trent, rumors have, he is an SEC potential. 6 foot 4 inches. He looks solid on his feet and can see over the middle, the flats, the corners and the wall. Consider the fact he rushed for 125 yards, sounds like he is light on his feet. Now mention the defense, you know, the hold the line stuff, well let's just say anytime a team is held to a minus, well let's just say that is sweet. So sweet that it causes future teams to scramble with some kind of wonder play hoping to sour that defense. What about Tullahoma playing Hillsboro this Friday night? Well, on any given day or night, any team is capable of losing or winning. I am sure speed will be the greatest factor. We cannot let the run go outside or we will be beaten. Turn them inside. Keep the field eyes open at all times. No loss of focus. See the ball. Play the field. Reach deep within for 48 minutes. No gaps. No hesitation. No fear. No words. Just play toe to toe, elbow to elbow. When the clock sounds shake a hand, pat a back, leave it all on the field, just where it belongs.
