Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

As I was sitting talking with old friends, someone asked me about my homemade vanilla ice cream recipe. I chuckled as I thought how many times I have made this recipe, copied this recipe, given this recipe out and never one time has anyone, ever not liked it. It is the kind of dessert that refreshes you, takes you back to barefeet summers on the front porch while the night washes over you with the sounds of critters singing out loud. It is the kind of dessert that you want to share with loved ones, friends, and family over loud conversation and endless stories. I cherish this recipe as I learned how to make it at such an early age. I was blessed to have a social, welcoming mother who valued good food, and good times. The endless ice cream freezers. The quick runs to the local grocery for more ice and salt. Neighbors dropping by for a bowl. Now, here I am at 43 years of age. A mother of two and wife of one. I have bought several freezers already. I am sure my mother is smiling at the fact that this simple, no fuss recipe has brought so much enjoyment to so many people. Here's to many more humming freezers on the deck. Here's to many more runs to the store for the stuff. Here's to endless summer nights on the deck with the bug chaser candles burning. Here's to scraping the bottom of the bowl for one more scoop of the best tasting ice cream to finish the final bite of hot fudge brownie left. I cherish this recipe and give it to all who read this. It is with much gratitude my fingers tap out the ingredients.
