Cowboy boots

My daughter has been wanting a pair of vintage cowboy boots. They are not on her Christmas list as we have researched and found the price to be too high. Well......I buy all of my shoes from our local Marti and Liz shoe store in town. The two ladies that run the store are very dear to me. I drop in from week to week and check on them. Check on the new shoes that have arrived on the shelves. A friendship has evolved from conversations in the store. I've seen pictures of the newest grandbaby. Heard heartache stories and been asked several medical questions. Well......on this particular day I ran in quickly for me a pair of shoes to wear on Sunday. When I entered the store, Kathy, quickly informed me to look; however, she had something for me. I did the quick glance of the shelves without any luck and walked up to the counter. There sat the prettiest pair of brown, pink, silver and gold cowboy boots in a size 8. The biggest grin came over her face as she exclaimed, "we knew you needed these." Needed!!!! I grabbed the boots to try them on as my daughter and me wear the same size. Perfect. The price. Perfect. 40.00 dollars. I saw the joy in Kathy's face. She had overheard my conversation with my daughter as we searched the shelves for a pair of boots. As I heard Kathy's deep chuckle, I realized she was more than a clerk in a shoe store. She was my friend. On Christmas morning there will be a beautiful pair of boots under our tree and my heart will overflow with the joy of the simple gift of a friend.
