He did not write the truth and Oprah is angry
A new book is out. A Million Little Pieces. It is a novel, memoir, biography, a book. What has happened is anger and embarrassment. Oprah is angry and embarrassed herself by supporting this author's book on her show and then calling in to redeem him on Larry King Live. Of course, the book is on the best-seller list. Number one I believe. Of course, with fame there is price. Okay, the author, James, admitted on Oprah's show, yesterday, that he altered people, events, time frames, characters. Now, Oprah is angry. She has supported someone who lies. I saw an indignant, intolerant, hostile Oprah, as she spoke with James again on her show. This apperance was not to lay claim to the book, it was to slap the author with his false words written. The truth. As Oprah glared on the show yesterday, I wondered. Who should be more embarrassed? The author, for writing untruthful words, or Oprah, for being so upset that she had made a mistake. I felt the heat from her wrath as I sat in my den. I saw the contempt when she listened to answers rendered from her questions. To question the publisher and attack her integrity. To show clips of people's dismay. Why? She felt her reputation had been damaged. She had supported a liar. The first invitation into her court was to give praise, support, and invite the world to see what she had found. The second invitation was to hold the hearing and condemnation. Power. Why is the country so outraged? Why is Oprah so inflamed? Be careful what sword you use to cut with. For a two-edged sword cuts both ways. The saddness, to me, is that a young man actually did have a drug and alcohol problem. That he did waste precious years trashed on substances. The saddness is that he is one of many dying still today. The saddness is there are many that have no one to hold them to the truth anymore. There is no one left to even care. In all honesty, Oprah looked like a woman searching for another fix. She had been human and made a mistake. She could not stand hearing the truth. Her show, her producers, her network, had believed in something that was not completely the truth. Sounds like the life of an addict. Every single day. Until known what is actually real.
