No surgery until the scabs heal.
While my son was being examined by the doctor, regarding his knee, he commented on a couple of scrapes and scabs on the knee. He explained that he wanted those to heal before doing surgery as it could cause a infection inside the knee. While it is necessary for these scabs to form over injured skin, it is not good to allow this tissue to enter the inside of the body, especially during a surgical procedure. I looked at the hurt places on his knee and promised to make sure he cleans them and applies ointment to speed up the healing process, because we want the inside of his knee repaired so he can run and turn, stop and start. Such an interesting dilemma. Often our hurts and damages much be reconized, touched and then we must realize the danger they can cause if we prevent them from healing or allow them to enter inside our hearts. My son's knee scrape continued to go deeper with each scrape on the ground while he played. Finally, he decided to wrap it up on the final game he played. While his skin was protected, the stability of his knee was blown. Life will hurt us, it is inevitable, but we don't have to allow it to penetrate our spirit. Let's see the hurt and claim it as ours then focus on the healing so as to stop the continued pain. Maybe that requires us to stop doing something or start. Maybe we must protect ourselves and cover our hurt. No matter what has happened to us in life, I believe that all things can be turned into gold and glory if we cherish each day and each moment. I looked at my son's knee last night, the washing and neosporin ointment are helping. We will have one final check-up before his surgery, to make sure his skin is intact. Then..... we will believe the best, hope the best and work hard to get a strong knee back. Whatever else is healed during this process.....well, let's just call that an old scar that doesn't hurt anymore.
