Our Homecoming is this Friday for the high school. There have been fun activities already, our daughter played powderpuff football yesterday and had a ball. There are special dress-up wacky days and such. There will be a dance following the game and last night as I was tucking my daughter in bed
she was hoping and praying her favorite guy was going to the dance and maybe, just maybe he would ask her to dance. I shared her hope with her and placed a kiss on her forehead. I hope Friday night is a safe night. Young people will be tempted to drink, have other parties that are not supervised and place themselves in a dangerous situation. Having a teenager is such a fragile balance of trust, concern, hope, independence and yet, staying checked-in with what is really going on. As a parent, we must spend time covering the bases about situations that could happen, what to do, what isn't a good idea, and most importantly being safe above all. I hope the rest of the week continues to be fun and exciting at the high school. I hope and pray, parents take the time to hear and find out what is going on. I hope the dance is a blast and my daughter gets a dance with her fellow. I pray for the safety of our young people. Afterall, homecoming is about school spirit and memories for life and not waking up on Saturday morning wondering where you are and how you got home. Check-in and stay up waiting for your teenager to come home. Show them it matters to always arrive home safely.
