Learning a foreign language isn't always Spanish.
What has happened to our language? We American's are so worried about the Mexican people living among us and not speaking English, I am worried about the disgusting downhill spiral of our language usage in English. Just stand around a football game and listen to the young people tell a story and hear the use of vulgar words like it is nothing unusual. Just watch their faces distorted with the hate and anger these words cause, thus losing valuable innocence. The f-word is simply as common and casual as IF or AND. I have a daughter and I simply cannot tolerate the thought of this word. Many think the s-word, d-word, hell, etc., are simply descriptive words that don't cause harm, to me that is like saying just a little bit unacceptaable behaviour is ok, but to a teenager, nothing that is wrong is ok, even in small doses. Teenagers need specific guidelines, now that doesn't mean they will follow them to the tee; however, they will know what is expected. I am afraid we parents want to be shocked at how fulgar language has gotten but are we hearing how we speak on a daily basis? I have heard dads yell at ballgames with such anger and harsh words that I am embarrassed for them to be sitting with our team. I have heard professional people tell such nasty jokes that I pretend I don't get the joke and walk away. I have heard men speak so cheaply about their wives and loved ones that I wish I didn't understand English. No, unfortunately, many of todays young people have learned the familiarity of crude word usage within the walls of their safe haven, and the loss of respect for others, by how their parents treat each other. It is funny to me the uproar about so many Mexican people who cannot speak English, when maybe we English speaking parents need to be concerned with the usage of our own words. Have we ever spent time discussing how degrading cuss words are and how it affects one's reputation? Do we want our daughters spoken to with such vulgarity? Do we want to raise young men who have nomore respect for themselves, than to sound like a X-rated movie? Maybe, we need to look at ourselves, look at our casual conversation, BEFORE, getting so concerned about the Spanish thing. Unfortunately, the language of cuss words has no language barrier, it changes everybody.
