The appearance of evil.

My mother gave me wise advice years ago. "Stay away from any appearance of evil." With the media covering Michael Vick's possible involvement in dog fighting and the horrible treatment of these animals it becomes evident these superstars are having trouble with what evil looks like. Our world has become so confused, thinking that a player who makes great plays is a great person. What happened to morals, ethics, character, being great plays? I am so tired of people saying, "don't judge a person." We judge everyday about who is the best player, best team, best coach, but we aren't allowed to stand up and say "this is wrong." Maybe Michael Vick is innocent, then why did he choose such questionable people to be with? I have always told my kids, never to go down the ladder to pull someone up, stay on your step, and if you can reach them, fine, if not, keep going on up the ladder, or you will fall down. This doesn't mean you can't still care for people. Nike is waiting on the shipment of the Vick super shoe for fall, they are concerned with "the disturbing allegations" against Vick. I am proud of Nike. It is time we say it is not okay to smoke pot, it is not okay for baseball players to get drunk, it is wrong for Pacman to hang out with thugs, it is a reflection of a person's character if they choose bad moral behaviour. It is time we say the truth. The appearance of evil cannot be overshadowed by the ability of a person to make great plays or a great living. Wrong isn't spelled, MAYBE.
