Best mutt of the parade, 3 yr old mule pair, families, only in Sewanee, Tn.
Our family attended the annual Fourth of July Parade, held in Sewanee, Tn. It is truly an American classic that all people need to experience. As one enters this, off the beaten interstate path, you begin to appreciate the things you have forgotten existed. Such as a single road running the length of a community that seems not to be in any hurry or concern for traffic. Strollers and bikes rolling along gently as not to wake the toddlers or distrupt the ease of the day. As our family gathered around the tent, placed by dear Uncle Tommy and Thomas, a breeze blew across the red checkered tablecloths, causing the simple decorations of stars and stripes to blow. With booths of artist work, anything from woodwork to jewelry, we enjoyed a slow walk to view what each one had to offer. My favorite attraction was Augustus, "Gus," the blue tick hound dog. If he had been there for the dog show, he surely would have placed first. As the sirens sound, a golf cart runs up and down the street to alert the way. One never knows what will be seen in the parade. From people to opinions, the parade is such a delight. As I chased the candy thrown from each float, I delighted in the simpleness of this day. Children filling their pockets with sweets. Music from bagpipes, drums vibrating my face, and children walking their dogs. As the end drew near, the horses and mules stopped in front of us. Massive mules with huge ears that flickered with the heat of the day, enormous eyes that possessed strength and warmth. I asked the fellow in the buggy, "how old are your mules?" "They be 3 year old," he said with a chuckle, "at least you know the difference between a horse and a mule." And that dear folks was the end of the parade. Simply charming and delightful.
