Do I have termites?

A friend told me that there are several homes in our neighborhood that have found termites. He just wanted me to be aware so I could have our home checked. As I was driving into our neighborhood I was wondering which houses are infested? They all looked just fine from the curbside view. I have heard how destructive these tiny critters are and the damage they cause, not to mention the money involved to repair. I don't think that insurance covers termites. So how did they come to choose these homes? How did they sneak in? All homes have termites. We all have hidden, secret things that no one can see from the curb, yet damage is being done. Many times we know it, many times we don't until the walls fall down. Wood can be replaced. Pesticides can be sprayed. Follow up visits can be made to check the progress. Traps can be placed outside so they can't get in. We need to inspect the condition of our home. Is it warm? Is it safe? Is it a soft place to fall when the day has been hard? Are the doors secure to keep harm out? Are the windows clean to see the view? Does our home welcome people or make them uncomfortable? Do our children like to be home? Am I willing to work, protect, and maintain my home? What am I letting in that is hurting our foundation? I can call the termite man today and assess the situation. Keeping my home as a fortress against the odds isn't found in a spray.
