The List
My daughter tried out for the middle school scoccer team this week. It was after school for two days and she loved it. She has not played since third grade; however she did not let that hinder her from trying out. The last day of tryouts she felt so good about the job she had done. She was confident of her speed and aggressiveness. I was thrilled for her. The coach informed them the list would be posted on Thursday. My husband rode out to the field to check the list after taking the kids to school. I called him later on just to say hi and he informed her name was not on the list. She did not make the team and he had already sent her the news on her cell phone. My heart sank because I knew she really wanted this. When I picked her up from cheerleading practice she asked me to ride out there and check because she wanted to make sure her name was not on the list. It wasn't and I knew she was hoping her dad had just made a mistake and overlooked it. She explains she is fine with it. I feel hurt for her. The neat thing about all this is the reaction of her friends. They were all so supportive and disappointed that she did not make the team. They called her and expressed their saddness. One of life's lessons of defeat. We can't win at everything we do. Life is full of ups and downs. I told Grace she was so blessed to have so many neat friends who truly cared for her. One of the girls called and left a message singing Amazing Grace to her. We laughed. Grace may not have made the team but she definitely has many friends on her list.
