The player
The man with the chess board begged people to play. He seemed so delightful and eager to teach. The board laid out with the pieces on squares. His eyes glistened over as the game would start. Beginning with teaching the basics of the board, each move became tense as the player evolved. The opponent becomes the enemy, teaching long gone. Each piece a taunt of failure to the one who wanted to learn. The game becoming fun, but for only the one, who begged and pleaded for someone to play. No longer a game, it becomes a fight for one's dignity. To stay for the sake of the game, to listen to ridicule of poor play. The player who wanted to teach, taught much more than the pawns he did take. People learn so quickly to walk past the board. Never stopping to wonder if a game would be fun. For fun shared only by one isn't what the game was intended for. So the player can beg and plead for a game, but no one will come.
