Toliet tissue, coffee, girls, and giggles
My daughter had two girlfriends spend the night, last night. They are a sweet group of girls and enjoy each other's company. The last time they came over they begged me to take them rolling. I refused thinking this wasn't appropriate for a mother to do. I told them maybe next time, when my daughter has her birthday, I would do such a thing as a present. Never say what you don't intend to do. Of course, as the night became late, the rolling issue popped up again. Of course, they are elephants who never forget. As I batted the idea around in my head, I am wondering if I am crossing the line as a parent or if I am being a real parent. There isn't a manual to refer to or guidelines to look up for a reference. I must decide this based on my standards, wisdom, and conscience. Well, I decide we can go roll one yard. Someone whom the girls like, not out of meaness, out of fun. I am giving them safety points, and a package of toliet tissue at the same time. Is there something wrong with this picture? The rolling goes successfully. The girls did a beautiful job, quite a work of art. They run to the car breathless with giggles and sweaty faces from the work. We drove by the masterpiece twice to see the effort. Home once again safe, with a thank you and a memory to last a lifetime. Would my mother have taken me rolling? No way! Would I have even asked? No way! Am I less of a mother now? I awakened the girls to take them to a new coffee shoppe for breakfast. Sleepy heads with circled up eyes, hair flopping everywhere. We get special tasting coffee with cinnamon rolls. I sit and listen to their stories of who is grumpy in the morning and who fell asleep first. I realize how important it is to be here, be available, be fun sometimes. I remember how fast my heart raced while the girls were rolling and how blessed I was to be there. Is it wrong to roll? Yes, it isn't okay. Do I think I made the right decision? Time will tell. I was there. They were safe. They fell asleep. They woke up talking, giggling and being girls.
