Vacation Bible School

Tonight began our Bible school for this summer. We are holding it at the community center. It is open to all children ages 3-12. There are wonderful crafts to do, popsicles to eat, games to play, and stories to be shared. My children were signed up to work, by me, and for the first time in 10 years I am not helping with this event. As we were getting ready to go out the door, I knew my children weren't thrilled about going to do this; however, they were willing to go. As I walked up the steps to check in with the leaders my heart felt heavy with regret. I was missing being a part of this mission and sharing in the joy. I know the little children will enjoy my son and his gentle demeanor. My daughter will make someone laugh and feel more comfortable. They will learn to help children who may not know about others caring for them. They will learn the importance of doing things that may not be on their fabulous agenda for summer, but will shape their character for later use. My spirits lifted and my burden rested as I watched them go their particular jobs to help the children have a fun, safe time at vacation bible school. They will have stories to tell and we will laugh at the funny things that happened and I will know all have been blessed.
