What I want for Christmas

As I sit here tonight checking off the Christmas list, making sure I have purchased the number of gifts required to save myself the embarrassment of forgetting someone or something, I wonder. I wonder what I wanted for Christmas. I know what I have already gotten. New furniture for our family room that arrived two weeks ago and we have enjoyed it very much. It is cozy, comfortable and my children have sat with us, in the family room, more than ever before. I also bought a new car. A great, slightly used, new car. My Infinity had 184,000 miles on it. It seemed to be time for a new car. As I sit here thinking about the presents and the season, I wonder. My father told me not to indulge my children. He doesn't want me to spoil them. My son has asked for one thing, XBOX 360 Premium. My daughter gave me a list of five things. I have been able to attain my daughter's list; however, the XBOX 360 has become a problem. Many people have said, "Don't worry about it, give him an IOU. He will understand." As I sit here looking at my warm, nicely decorated room, I am concerned. Gladly, I would give back the car, the furniture, for the single item on my son's list. Silly you may say. The day after Christmas will be just as good. No. My children spoil me everyday. They talk to me. Laugh with me. Tell me their heartaches, victories, boyfriend and girlfriend. My daughter explains her detention from school. My son tells his time in the 40 yard dash. I know their dreams, their friends, their grades and favorite teachers. I have heard their gratitude, when I have sacrificed for them. I have felt warm hugs when tucking them in bed. I have listened to prayers and stood beside them when the answer wasn't good. Spoil my children. I think I will. I will consider it a priviledge to look to the final second for that XBOX 360. I will scream with delight when my daughter sees her boots. I will cherish the opportunity to give them a little extra. I will thank the God I know and the Jesus I love for the greatest gift of all, life, love, and forgiveness. And, tonight I will hope and wonder that there is one more XBOX 360 for my gift.
