A warm coat, Christmas, surprises

I have been married for 19 years, I think. Let's see August 16, 1986. Yes, that is correct. Well, surprises come in all sizes, places and people. One Christmas, in particular, we had been dating for two years. He told me he loved me. I was madly in love with him. We had discussed forever and ever. You remember the love struck stuff. Well, this Christmas, I had gone to his house in Georgia. We were going to celebrate our gifts and then I was headed back to Tennessee to see my family. My present, from him, was in a large box. It felt heavy. It didn't shake too great and I was so excited. I thought he had hidden an engagement ring in this huge box. As the time grew near to open our presents his family gathered around. The famous Grandma Blanche was there as well. I ripped the paper off and threw open the box top to find a grey, all weather coat. I swallowed hard. I fought back the tears. Shocked, doesn't even describe my feelings. As I reacted, incorrectly, with hurt and dismay, I was made aware that the famous Grandma Blanche had assisted in the picking out of my coat, should have been a ring, present. Hiding my feelings has never been my strong suit. Just ask my husband. Well, Bo realized I was less than thrilled with my present. He was hurt. He was confused. How could I not love this coat? Well, I know I was wrong. What wasn't wrong was my desire to become engaged. I wanted to marry him. Spend the rest of my life with him. Have children with him. Love, laugh, hurt, dream, rejoice, cry and be companions. I wore the coat. It kept me warm. I said too much. I told him too many times how I hated that coat, but when I did get my ring. Let's just say I was surprised. Wondering why he still asked me to marry after my childish ways? Let's just say the love between us doesn't need a coat to keep it warm.
