Happy Valentine's Day
Well, another holiday. Many will say it is just another opportunity to spend money, make money and purchase silly cards. I do not believe this. I am a romantic at heart. So what does this mean? I love giving a special surprise to a special someone. Who is special? My husband. My children. Friends. Family. I took the time to read each person's card making sure it matched my feelings and the person. I carefully placed each one's gift beside their bed as they slept. My daughter had my simple gifts on my dresser when I woke up. My husband had purchased Russell Stover candy and had taken the time to write me a special note. As I looked at the box of candy I was taken back in time to my parents humble kitchen and my father coming in with with a box of candy and a card for my mom. She was always delighted and proclaimed her love for him once again. My daddy would smile and give her a kiss. She always loved the kind with nuts. He made sure to get the right kind. A simple gift, but a timeless memory. She would laugh and ask if he could take her to Shoney's or Morrison's for dinner. She was his Valentine for life. He was her's until her death. Romantic. I am sure people purchased a dozen red roses that they could not afford. Bought too much candy to eat. Spent too much money on cards. To have the fortune of reconizing this special day of love is a gift in and of itself. To have people whom we love and cherish is irreplaceable. To spend time in the card aisle sorting through the mssages because you know someone that well. To wait in anticipation as your loved one opens the small treasure. To give just a little piece of candy. To be someone's special Valentine each and everyday. True love. Love that comes in the simple box of Russell Stover given each year without fail. That's romantic.
