Yard work caused more than sweat to pop out.

As my daughter and I turned the corner I could tell the yard had been freshly mowed and trimmed. It looked great. As we pulled into the driveway; however, I was shocked to see my son with the trimmer and my husband on the mower. The yard was too neatly trimmed for my son to have done it. My husband can make a yard look like it was cut out of a picture, he can shape it up so nicely and my son just wants to get it done. Who cares if a few blades of grass are missed, or should I say quite a few. As I climb out of the car I tell my son how nice the yard looks and he responded with, "I did the trimming." I immediately say, "sure you did." He knew exactly what I was thinking, it was too nice of a job. He then tells me how his dad got off and on the mower showing him exactly what to do and how to hold the trimmer so the grass would be trimmed evenly. Not a big deal in the scheme of life, but it was nice to see the end results. My son cut this big grin and said, "I told dad if he gets off that mower one more time and shows me what I missed I was going to cut him into with that trimmer." We both laughed and I saw the sparkle of pride and respect in my son's eyes as he stood there with grass all over him and sweat dripping off his face. He had just worked along side his father, the one who took the time to show him what he was doing wrong, the one who was watching his work and caring enough to point out the good and the need for improvement. My son had accomplished a manly task for which he felt so proud of because I noticed the difference and his father had taken the time to make a difference. I saw the mutual love and honor between these two men in my life and it gave me great joy to see how a simple, mundane task, when shared between a father and son, can leave a lasting immpression on a young man's heart and mind.....it will grow just like the grass he timmed.
