Black and white checkered tabletops with atmosphere and great food.

I have been trying to eat at this restuarant for at least a year. Everytime we went it was closed. I had heard about this place from people at work. Great Italian food, fresh, family owned, small, and I am all about this place. Finally, yesterday I called to see if they were open, YES!!! I made the rounds to all the family members asking if we could go for dinner around five or six? It seemed we were all in agreement with the dinner plans and I thrilled. I don't know why, but I just love to go to a new restuarant that has a quaintness, simpleness, atmosphere and located where one might not expect it to be. As we drove down the road to Cowan, Tn my excitement always rises to the top and my children fuss at me for being so silly about going to a new place. It is always the same, I talk too much and too fast and I get alittle louder as we get closer to our destination. As we finally made our way into the little town, I could see the lights in the distance. Just a small place sitting in the row of the old town buildings right beside the railroad track. Bright, shiny, long windows to the sidewalk, with a black and gold sign. Sernicola's. I am so excited. Waiting for my son to park is a challenge, I am ready to jump out of the car to go right in. I am not disappointed as I gaze through the heavy door's window. Italy is inside. Bright sparkling lights surround the ceiling, dangling hearts preparing for Valentine's Day, small tables with black and white checkered tablecloths and room for only a few people. Great!!! As the waitress asks us "how we are doing, I excitedly replied four." My children shake their heads in embarrassment. We order off the simple menu. Fresh bread, fresh butter. It is such a fine evening with my dear family. The train roars by with its soulful whistle. Our waitress is alittle overwhelmed, drinks aren't filled quickly and such; however, our meals were delicious. As we watch the time to get our daughter back to the movies, I already know that I want to come back here. I have loved every minute of it. There isn't enough time to sit until the food settles for cheesecake dessert and a cup of coffee, but that's okay, I will enjoy that next time. My children have garlic butter dripping off their chins, my husband has a spot on his shirt, and I have this simple wish fulfilled. I am so blessed.
