Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream wrapped in fudge icing.

I remember my first Baskin Robbins ice cream cake experience. I had gone down to meet my boyfriend's family and it was someone's birthday. This frozen delight arrived in a pink box with see-through plastic wrap. I had no idea what kind of cake this could be, but I was ready to find out. It was frozen so hard it was difficult to cut the slices. I remember remarking that such a delicious thing was a birthday favorite of this family. I was young, I had vistited and met many boyfriend families along the way; however this was the first ice cream cake for me and I did not forget it. Of course, we did not do ice cream cakes in my family. Ours were homemade, it we got one. There might be candles, there might not be candles. Isn't it funny how time just slips away? That first cake was 23 years ago. I have bought many more since that time. I did go on to marry the ice cream cake guy. I have purchased chocolate chip with chocolate cake, my favorite, and I have settled for plain vanilla with chocolate cake. I am thankful my inlaws taught me about Baskin Robbins ice cream cakes. I am thankful we were celebrating my husband's 45 th birthday today, a few days early. I am thankful to have shared such a simple pleasure with the people who mean the most to me. We are both halfway to 90,now. We have been together long enough for me to know that he likes the Dairy Queen cakes with the crunchy icing and I always like Baskin Robbin's chocolate-chocolate chip. And...I will never forget my first taste and I hope we buy many more.
