Maintaining your composure.

I think it is time to stop the verbal abuse that occurs between the players and coaches. I am so tired of watching coaches lose their cool on the sidelines. An old football player explained to me how bad it was when he played and "that's just the way it was." It's a good thing I wasn't his mother because I would have caused a scene. Maybe it was worst then. I don't really care because now I have a son playing at the high school level and I think it is time parents speak up. In the professional world people that continue to lose their cool and make derogatory remarks , are given the choice , straighten up or go to anger management if you want to keep your job. Why have we decided that it is a sign of strength when a coach "lays into a player for something he has done wrong." Wouldn't it be more effective if it were a time to teach rather than condemn or degrade the player? I also think coaches choose certain players they can pick on , the safe ones , the ones who may be struggling to make it and will take it. I think the next time our coaches look unprepared or confused during the game I am going to tell them we fans would be happy to point it out to them anytime during the game if it will help them. I don't mind my son being told when he has made a mistake , I want him to know so he can get better , but the next time one of his coaches yells so out of control at him ...I am going to show them just how mad the polar bear can get when someone messes with her cub. There is no place for out of control coaching anymore it is unacceptable.
