I talked with Him about shopping for a dress.

Our daughter is the sophomore Homecoming attendant. We are excited and thankful that her friends voted her this honor. We have never done the shopping for a fancy dress thing. The other girls quickly chose and purchased their dresses. We did not. Our daughter spent the week looking at various styles, colors, fabrics on the Internet and finally decided exactly what she was looking for. The next weekend we planned to go shopping on Saturday to local stores that we had been told about. That morning as I waited for everyone to start waking up, I had my devotion. Two cups of fresh coffee over time with the Lord, well there really is no better way to start the day. As I offered thankfulness, asked for forgiveness, I lifted up the Homecoming dress thing to God. "Help us find the dress for her Lord. One that is just right for her." After a good breakfast, comfortable clothes to wear, we were off. The first store, Pearls and Pinstripes, had a couple of dresses she tried on, but nothing really was just right. Then a friend who worked there, remember a new dress that had just come in. A sweetheart neckline, the color she wanted, sort of french looking. Well, she put that dress on and it was like someone cut it out and sewed it up for her. We asked our friend to hold it for just a couple of hours as we had one more place to go to. This and That in Manchester....a garage lined with more dresses than I have ever seen. Every style, color, shape, fabric. She finally tried on the last dress and really liked this one as well, but there was doubt. This dress was made just a little different than the other one she liked. I told the very nice lady that we were going back to Tullahoma for her to try the other dress on one more time before making the final decision and we would either be back or call her. My daughter started to turn around and just forget going back to try the other dress again but I told her it was okay for us to really make sure and not rush the decision. Her friend brought the dress out and we slipped it on over her head and BAM!!! We knew in a instant. This was the dress. No question. No alteration to be done. Nothing. It was perfect. Funny, until she tried another dress that was so close to being just right, it was difficult to see why this dress was the one. Such a fun mother-daughter experience. I totally enjoyed the day. We did not even get tired and we don't really like to shop. It is one of my fondest memories. We drove home with smiles and chuckles. We both knew that dress was there for her and we know He cares about picking out dresses for Homecoming.
