Does your yard have a secret weed?
We just put another dose of weed and feed on our yard, actually my husband did. The problem is those pesky dandelions will not go away and each morning you can see a couple of new ones popping their yellow heads up trying to get started again. Our grass has turned a deeper shade of green and is starting to look healthier.....but there is this stuff we just found along the side of our house... called watercress or something like that. It is a low profile weed. Doesn't grow up...it goes out. Spreading along the ground inconspicuously taking over the good grass. From the distance it isn't noticeable, but when you get up close you see the green isn't the same color and it is simply another weed in disguise. It is strong. Hard to kill and remove once it comes to live in your yard and when it dies it leaves empty, brown spots. Maintaining a yard is a lot like maintaining your relationship with God. Just like looking closely at at yard, we must look at our lives and see the weeds that are laying low but taking over our hearts. It is so easy to justify some things in our lives that we hold unto, we think because no one else can really spot them, they are okay. Maybe they don't stand out like the yellow dandelion, making it easy to spray Round Up on them, but they are just as deadly...waiting to take heart. What really is in your heart this morning? What battle are you silently fighting? Where do you really stand? Your spouse may not know? Your best friend has no idea. Your job performance may be excellent. Your yard may look like the best one on the block....from the street. But, if someone was to take a walk, with bare feet, in your grass and in your heart....would they see and feel the weeds laying low sucking the green grass of living and life out of your soil. This morning look outside at your yard. Take it in. With the economy, yard maintenance may be an area you have chose to cut back on....but be prepared for the weeds to still come. Anytime we stop looking closely at what really is growing, we risk being taken over. Take your shoes off and walk in the wet, dewy grass this morning. Feel the cool water and grass between your toes...now look down....what do you see? What do you see in your heart? Ask God to help you live each second of each day for Him. Ask Him to help you see your weeds and pull them out one by one and destroy their grip. He already knows where they are and what they are. Ask God to be the keeper of your heart's soil. You can't afford to leave that job to anyone else or you could lose your ground.
